Thiem: "Zverev was my main rival
Dominic Thiem looked back on his career and spoke about his main rival: "I played a lot of matches with great players.
But with Zverev, it was much more special - he was my main rival.
We grew up on the tennis courts at the same time, and climbed the rankings at the same time. As a result, we played tournaments in the biggest stadiums on the planet."
The Austrian and the German have met 12 times, with Thiem leading 8-4. It was against Zverev that Thiem won his first and only Grand Slam, at the US Open in 2020.
Trailing 2-6, 4-6, the Austrian managed to turn the match around to win 2-6, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 7-6.
