"This final could have ended her career": Todd Woodbridge praises Anisimova's resilience after Wimbledon
Amanda Anisimova's 2025 year was marked by a spectacular rise in the rankings, settling into the 4th world ranking after reaching her first two Grand Slam finals at Wimbledon and the US Open.
While the American has not yet lifted a Major trophy, she still won two WTA 1000 titles in Doha and Beijing.
"This final could have ended her career"
On the podcast The Tennis, former player Todd Woodbridge discussed Anisimova's resilience, who did not lose her footing after her catastrophic final at Wimbledon (lost 6-0, 6-0 to Iga Swiatek):
"In 2019, she lost in the semifinals of Roland-Garros to Ash Barty. Her life changed radically off the court, which is really difficult to handle. But she found a way to become a great player again.
Wimbledon, an incredible tournament but a final you never want to remind her of. The mental effort to come back and play so well at the US Open, I don't think many people can truly measure it.
This Wimbledon final could have ended her career. That's exactly what happened to Eugenie Bouchard: she never regained such a level afterwards. For Anisimova, all the journey she has made up to today deserves all the existing awards."
