Machac Withdraws, Mensik Advances to Miami Quarterfinals Without Playing
This Tuesday marks the round of 16 at the Miami Masters 1000. The entire fourth round of the men’s draw will take place in the coming hours. However, only seven matches will be contested on the courts instead of the eight originally scheduled.
Indeed, the all-Czech clash between Tomas Machac and Jakub Mensik will not take place, as the former, who is ill, was forced to withdraw just hours before stepping onto the court for his round of 16 match against his compatriot.
After his victories over Matteo Arnaldi and Reilly Opelka, the world No. 20, who reached the quarterfinals in this same tournament last year before losing to Jannik Sinner, is now leaving Florida—but not in the way he would have hoped.
Meanwhile, Mensik, who defeated Roberto Bautista Agut, Jack Draper, and Roman Safiullin, advances to the quarterfinals of a Masters 1000 for the second time in his career, following his run in Shanghai last year.
He will now compete for his first semifinal in this tournament category against the winner of the night-session match between Alexander Zverev and Arthur Fils.
