This year, I feel more confident," Sabalenka shares her thoughts on her chances at Roland Garros
Aryna Sabalenka is still chasing her first Roland Garros title, having never progressed beyond the semifinals.
During a press conference after her victory over Amanda Anisimova, the Belarusian expressed confidence about her chances of winning in Paris, especially with Iga Swiatek not at her best.
"My mindset remains the same: to win as much as possible. Compared to last year, I don’t think I was as complete as I am now. I’ve made a lot of progress heading into Roland Garros.
I no longer have any doubts about my ability to play on clay; maybe this year, I have more self-belief. Looking at the Australian Open and the US Open, I know I’m the favorite.
I know I can perform really well on this surface, but it also takes a lot of confidence. At Roland Garros, however, there have been years when I arrived without that confidence.
I’ve seen players like Iga with much better movement, with better tools. I wasn’t sure if I was ready, but now I know I have been. I’m super excited and proud of myself for how I’m approaching this tournament.
