Ticket sales for Roland-Garros: the FFT wins its appeal case against the Viagogo platform
Good news for French tennis and for Roland-Garros. The French Tennis Federation, in conflict with Viagogo, an online ticket resale platform, has officially won its case.
To recall, Viagogo had put tickets for the tournament on sale without authorization from the organization. In April 2018, the company was forced to pay €75,000 to the FFT by the Paris High Court, as reported by L'Équipe in recent hours.
The Paris Court of Appeal rules in favor of the FFT in its conflict with Viagogo
In December 2022, the Paris Judicial Court had condemned Viagogo for the same reason. The platform had appealed the decision, and a final ruling was to be given in recent hours by the Paris Court of Appeal.
It confirmed that "the resale of tickets by the companies Viagogo GmbH and Viagogo Entertainment INC., even if it takes place outside French territory, constitutes a violation of the operating monopoly held by the French Tennis Federation (FFT) on the sale of tickets for access to Roland-Garros," assures L'Équipe on its website.
After eight years of proceedings, the FFT and Viagogo are settled. The latter must pay an amount of over one million euros (€1,030,000) to the former. A decision that the French Tennis Federation welcomes.
"The FFT welcomes with great satisfaction this new conviction, which confirms the judgment rendered on December 13, 2022 by the Paris Judicial Court while imposing heavier penalties on the Viagogo companies," concludes the body.
