Tokyo silver medallist Vondrousova withdraws from Paris Olympics
After reigning Olympic champion Belinda Bencic's absence from tennis following the birth of her first child on April 23, Marketa Vondrousova also officially withdrew from the Paris Olympics on Monday.
The Czech, silver medallist at Tokyo 2021, has not sufficiently recovered from a hand injury. She revealed this on Monday.
Marketa Vondrousova: "For health reasons, I won't be taking part in this year's Olympics. I hoped until the last moment that I would at least be able to play doubles, but my hand problems prevent me from playing.
I'm now concentrating on getting back into shape for the US Open. I'll keep my fingers crossed for all the Czech representatives in France."
