Toni Nadal explains what Zverev lacks to win a Grand Slam: What has prevented him from succeeding in winning a Grand Slam tournament

Since Sunday evening, there has been one declaration after another congratulating Carlos Alcaraz, who was crowned French Open champion against Zverev in the final (6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2). Among the many admirers is Rafael Nadal's long-time coach, Toni Nadal.

In addition to the usual congratulations, the Spanish technician spoke at some length about what made 'Carilto' so strong: "Carlos Alcaraz won his first Grand Slam on clay. The other two he has won - Wimbledon on grass and the American Grand Slam on hard court - prove, in case anyone was still in any doubt, the high quality of his tennis.

All these data, together with the sufficiency and high quality of tennis he demonstrates in the most important tournaments, lead us to believe that, in a few years' time, he will become one of the best players of all time."

As well as congratulating Alcaraz, Toni Nadal also returned to the case of Alexander Zverev, who seems both so close and so far from winning a Major.

And, he offered an explanation: "On the second point of the first game of the fourth and, after the great comeback of the previous set and while leading 0-15, Alexander made an insignificant mistake and angrily turned to his box to complain about it.

Fifteen minutes later, in the blink of an eye, the Spaniard was already leading 4-0 in this important set.

His inability to control these situations is what has prevented him from winning a Grand Slam tournament. The other side of the coin is the new winner's state of mind. Carlos faced the fourth set after a painful comeback without losing his composure, his conviction and his faith in victory.

Something that only great champions can achieve. My most sincere congratulations."
