Tsurenko Accuses WTA of Psychological Abuse: "Even in a Nightmare, I Couldn’t Have Imagined the Pro Tour Becoming a Terrifying Place"

Lesia Tsurenko published a lengthy statement on her X (formerly Twitter) account this Wednesday, detailing an act of psychological abuse she allegedly suffered at the hands of one of the WTA’s executives (possibly Steve Simon, president until August 2024, or Portia Archer, the current head of the women’s tour):
"It’s time to tell the truth. Since childhood, I’ve always dreamed of a career as a professional player. I’ve faced many trials and obstacles on the path to my dream. I poured my entire soul and strength into this dream. [...]
Even in my worst nightmare, I couldn’t have imagined that the professional tour, which I consider my home, would become a terrifying and alien place where its leader would knowingly commit an act of moral violence against me.
An act that caused me panic attacks and made me unable to do my job.
I spoke openly about it. I tried to seek justice from the WTA. But in response, I faced injustice and indifference, which prolonged my emotional decline.
Pain, fear, panic attacks, humiliation, concealment of information, harassment of my team to silence us… And there are many other things I had to endure.
The WTA Tour refused to protect a woman, a player, and a human being. Instead, the WTA Tour chose to protect someone in a leadership position.
Taking this matter to court is my last chance to defend myself, uphold my rights and dignity, and prevent such acts of violence. And that’s the path I’ve chosen since the end of last year.
I pray to God that no one else will experience what I’ve been through and that everyone will be held accountable for their actions."
I applaud WTA for that stand and wish Tsurenko to find a job 9-5 ......if she qualifies for anything else than hate.
