Two Players Outside Top 50 Reach Shanghai Semifinals: Vacherot and Rinderknech Join an Exclusive Club
Valentin Vacherot and Arthur Rinderknech have secured their spots in the Shanghai Masters 1000 semifinals by defeating Holger Rune and Felix Auger-Aliassime, respectively.
As reported by the X account Jeu, Set et Maths, this marks the 11th time since 1990 that two players ranked outside the Top 50 have reached the semifinals of a Masters 1000 tournament.
The most recent occurrence featured Jan-Lennard Struff and Aslan Karatsev in Madrid, who were ranked 65th and 121st at the time.
Among them, we also find Richard Gasquet and Juan Carlos Ferrero at the 2005 Monte-Carlo Masters 1000, where they were ranked 101st and 69th, respectively.
