United Cup - USA hold off Canada

Things were much tougher than expected for the American team on Sunday. Up against a determined Canadian side, they managed to come out on top in the decisive doubles (2-1).

That said, things could have been easier for one of the tournament's favorite nations. Indeed, after Coco Gauff's authoritative victory over Leylah Fernandez (6-3, 6-2), it seemed that the match was already over. However, Félix Auger-Aliassime proved everyone wrong by toppling Taylor Fritz after more than 2 hours of struggle (4-6, 7-5, 6-3).

Beaten by a tough Canadian team, Gauff and Fritz returned to the court to play and win the decisive doubles match against Fernandez and Auger-Aliassime (7-6, 7-5).

With their victories, they can now secure their place in the quarter-finals against Croatia. Canada, meanwhile, finished with a win and a loss (2-1, 1-2), and will now have to hope for one of the best runner-up spots.
