US Open: Five Canadian Seeds, a First in History
For the first time in its history, Canadian tennis will have five seeded players in the main draw of the US Open.
Mboko, Auger-Aliassime, Shapovalov, Fernandez, and Diallo will have the heavy responsibility of representing Canada in the 2025 edition of the American tournament.
Victoria Mboko made waves by winning the WTA 1000 in Montreal at just 18 years old. Seeded 22nd at Flushing Meadows, she will face the Czech Krejcikova (61st) in the first round.
A semifinalist in 2021, Felix Auger-Aliassime will be seeded 25th and will challenge Britain's Harris (151st) in his opening match.
Seeded 27th, Denis Shapovalov notably reached the quarterfinals in 2020 and will face Hungary's Fucsovics (94th) in his opening match in New York.
Leylah Fernandez (seeded 31st), on the other hand, will have an all-Canadian duel as she faces her compatriot Marino (119th).
Finally, young Gabriel Diallo (seeded 31st) will play in the main draw of the tournament for the second time and will face Bosnia's Dzumhur (60th).
