US Open: Royer Wins His First Match in New York, Halys Continues Losing Streak

The third day of competition at the US Open is in full swing with the latest entries of French players.
Starting at 1 p.m. local time, Valentin Royer made his debut on the courts of Flushing Meadows, thanks to a wild card granted by the French Tennis Federation (as part of an exchange with the USTA). A new member of the top 100 since August, the native of Boulogne-Billancourt was unstoppable against Yunchaokete Bu (6-1, 6-4, 7-6).
This second Grand Slam victory of the season allows him to advance to the second round, where he will face off against world No. 29 Denis Shapovalov.
On the other hand, the American summer has turned into a nightmare for Quentin Halys. Without a win since June 16 and his first-round victory on the grass of Halle, the French player has suffered his seventh consecutive loss on the main tour, defeated in four sets by David Goffin (6-7, 6-4, 6-3, 7-5).
This latest elimination will not have heavy consequences for his ranking, but he will need to quickly rediscover the taste of success in Asia in September.
