US Open WTA: Pegula, Paolini, and Navarro Hold Their Ground
Three players from the women's Top 15 were set to close out the first day of the US Open. Emma Navarro, although challenged in the first set, won 7-6, 6-3 against Yafan Wang.
She will face her compatriot Caty McNally in the next round. As for Jasmine Paolini, she was up against qualifier Destanee Aiava. The Italian came out on top with a score of 6-2, 7-6. She will face Aliaksandra Sasnovich or young Iva Jovic in the next round.
Jessica Pegula also had a successful start. The American was scheduled for the night session on Arthur Ashe Court against Mayar Sherif.
She won without much difficulty, 6-0, 6-4, and will play her second-round match against Anna Blinkova.
