Van Assche before the Next Gen Masters: "When you see the names of those who have won, they are now very good and very well known."
Luca Van Assche is only 20 years old, but from Wednesday he'll be taking part in his second Next Gen Masters in Jeddah.
Despite a year in which he was less in the limelight, the Frenchman still managed to qualify for this competition, where he reached the semi-finals last year.
Speaking to ATP, Van Assche spoke of his objectives for this tournament, which is supposed to reveal the big names of tomorrow: "I'll do everything I can to win this tournament, and I hope I will.
When you see the names of the players who have won this Masters, they're now very, very well known and they're very good players. It's motivating to say 'Ok, I'm on the right track'."
And as for his long-term career, he seems optimistic: "When I started playing, it was with friends. Now it's my job, but it's still a hobby. I really enjoy it.
I've never doubted my abilities. When I was 19, I was already in the Top 100. Everything was very fast.
When I finish my career, I'll see what my limit was. I'm still very young, I'm only 20 and I've got a lot of years ahead of me.
My biggest goal is to have big dreams."
