Vekic dedicated her victory to the victims of the Los Angeles fires

Donna Vekic faced Diane Parry in the first round of the Australian Open on Sunday. She won 6-4, 6-4.

During the traditional camera signing, the Croatian paid tribute to the victims of the Los Angeles fires, inscribing "LA" followed by a heart.

The provisional death toll stands at sixteen, with over 15,000 hectares up in smoke.

Vekic will face the winner of the Marketa Vondrousova-Jana Fett match in the second round.
