Venus Williams Becomes One of the Oldest Players to Win a Set in a Grand Slam

In her 94th Grand Slam appearance—a truly sensational number—Venus Williams was eliminated in the first round by the Czech player Muchova (seeded 11th).
Although this loss seemed logical given her age and current form (only 3 matches in 2025), the seven-time Grand Slam champion still surprised everyone when she leveled the match at one set all against the world number 13 (6-2).
A historic set, then, which places the American on the podium of the oldest players to win a set in a Grand Slam (45 years and 2 months). Only Renee Richards (47 years old) and Navratilova (47 years and 8 months) surpass her.
While Venus has not yet confirmed anything regarding her future tournament schedule, she did state that she would not restrict herself and would do what she wants to do. She also mentioned that she felt physically better than she did a few years ago.
