Very classy, Thiem calms things down: "I don't deserve this wild-card".

Le 20/05/2024 à 18h38 par Elio Valotto

Dominic Thiem has made an excellent start to his career. After 10 consecutive appearances at the Paris tournament, he had to go through the qualifying rounds for the first time. Up against Franco Agamenone (228th), Thiem got off to a poor start and came out on top (3-6, 6-3, 6-2). On a Suzanne Lenglen court rallied to his cause, the former world No. 3 prolonged the pleasure for at least one match.

At the press conference, the Austrian was asked about the recent wild-card controversy. Indeed, the Parisian tournament decided not to invite him, even though he is playing in his last Roland Garros. As fair-play as ever, the Austrian explained that he fully understood the tournament's decision. In his opinion, he didn't deserve the invitation and now hopes to secure his place via the qualifiers: "Honestly, I had enough time to find a good ranking and I didn't do it. I don't deserve this wild-card and that's fine with me. I've played the French Open 10 times, which is more than enough. I just hope I can do it one last time. That's the goal." (Interview at press conference).

Wow! Where is the dignity? "Women's tennis signs" with the biggest suppressors of women? Is it only about money? Sorry but I shall not attend nor follow any of their matches.
