Video – 29 shots and a splendid counter-drop shot: the exchange between Rune and Vacherot in Shanghai

Holger Rune and Valentin Vacherot delighted the crowd at the center court in Shanghai this Thursday, October 9th.

In an unexpected quarter-final clash in Shanghai, Rune and Vacherot went blow for blow for nearly three hours. While the Dane was logically the favorite given his ranking (11th), he hadn't accounted for an opponent brimming with confidence: victory for the Monegasque (2-6, 7-6, 6-4).

Coming through the qualifiers, Vacherot is the surprise of this 2025 edition of the Chinese tournament. The 26-year-old player, who usually competes on the Challenger tour, defeated four Top 40 players in the span of 10 days to secure his place in the final stages of the tournament.

A chance to revisit one of the highlights of his tournament: a rally concluded magnificently with a counter-drop shot. Watch the video again below.
