Video – "I'm sorry for playing such horrible tennis," Sabalenka's emotional speech
Sabalenka suffered her third defeat in a Grand Slam final. Facing Gauff, she started strong by winning the first set but faltered in the next two. Deeply affected by the loss, she became visibly emotional during her post-match speech:
"It really hurts, especially after such a tough two weeks and playing such great tennis. The conditions were so difficult, and I played so poorly, but congratulations, Coco, on your incredible run and your second Grand Slam. You’re a fighter and a hard worker.
Thank you all for the atmosphere—I cherished every second with you. And thank you to everyone who makes this tournament happen. Thank you to my team—I’m sorry for this final and for playing such horrible tennis. Thank you all—I’ll come back stronger."
This marks her second loss to Gauff in a major final after the 2023 US Open. A win would have made her the only active player on tour to claim three of the four Grand Slam titles.
