Video - Lulu Sun's tears after her Wimbledon triumph
Lulu Sun is enjoying an idyllic 2024 edition of Wimbledon. Already the first New Zealander in the Open era to reach the Round of 16 on British turf, she qualified for the quarters on Sunday.
Ranked 123rd in the world this week, she seems to be on cloud nine. First of all, the 23-year-old came through qualifying with flying colors, before breaking through in the first round, eliminating Qinwen Zheng (4-6, 6-2, 6-4).
Undaunted, she kept up the momentum in the following rounds. She made it all the way to the Round of 16, where she defeated UK darling Emma Raducanu on Sunday (6-2, 5-7, 6-2).
Interviewed on court after her magnificent success, Sun couldn't hide her emotions and broke down in tears (see video below).
