Video - Mladenovic ignored at net after a tense double
During the women's doubles round of 16 between Kristina Mladenovic / Shuai Zhang and the pair Lyudmyla Kichenok / Chan Hao-Ching, a tense moment occurred at the net during the handshake.
The Frenchwoman, who had just won the match with Zhang (7-6, 6-2), was completely ignored by Kichenok as she extended her hand (see video below).
On the other hand, she had no problem greeting Chan, Kichenok's partner.
In a post-match interview, Mladenovic explained the tense atmosphere in the John Cain Arena, which could have explained the Ukrainian's moody gesture:
"If you want my opinion, I think my opponents woke me up because they showed unsportsmanlike behavior during my serve and I got angry.
I said to myself: 'Okay, that's how the match starts'.
With my partner (Zhang), I was very calm and we fought together to find a solution. But that was a trigger for me."
The Mladenovic/Zhang pair will play in the quarter-finals against Siniakova/Townsend.
