Richard Gasquet played his final career match at the Monte-Carlo tournament this Wednesday. The Frenchman will retire from professional tennis after the Roland-Garros tournament.
Defeated by Daniel Altmaier, Gasquet received a tribute from the tournament that first revealed his talent in 2002, when he became the youngest player to win a match in a Masters 1000 event at just 15 years and 10 months old.
He also made his mark at this tournament in 2005, coming through the qualifiers and then defeating then-world No. 1 Roger Federer in the quarterfinals.
Gasquet eventually fell in the semifinals to Rafael Nadal after a hard-fought three-set battle.
The video tribute ended simply: "Thank you, Richard. Congratulations and good luck."
