Video - Refereeing controversy between Fils and Zverev!
In the decisive set between Arthur Fils and Alexander Zverev, the chair umpire made a major error of judgment.
The Frenchman, who was serving when the score was 3-2, 30-15 in his opponent's favor, saw his first serve ruled out of bounds when he then had the court open to finish the point.
Surprised by the chair umpire's decision, he asked for a challenge which showed that the ball had bounced right into the service box (see video below).
A mistake by referee Manuel Messina that had no impact when the point was replayed.
However, tension mounted after Arthur Fils was broken on the same service game. He complained during the changeover: "You're so bad, it's unbelievable. I've been telling you since the first game. And you keep on like this. You've got to wake up."
