Elise Mertens pulled off a true miracle to reach the final of the WTA 250 in ’s-Hertogenbosch by saving eleven match points during her semifinal against Ekaterina Alexandrova (2-6, 7-6, 6-4).
The Belgian first fended off five when serving to stay in the match at 4-5 in the second set, then another five on her next service game at 5-6. Finally, Alexandrova earned her eleventh and final match point during the tie-break when the score was 6-5 (see video below).
Mertens then clinched the decisive game before ultimately securing the victory after nearly three hours of play.
