Video - Venus Williams Spotted on Practice Courts in Miami
The Sunshine Double continues. After about ten days in California for the Indian Wells tournament, the world's best players are now heading to the other side of the United States, specifically Florida, for the WTA 1000 in Miami. The top seeds, who will only enter the competition in the second round, are currently training.
This is the case for Ons Jabeur. Ranked 30th in the world, the Tunisian will face Katerina Siniakova in her opening match in Miami. To prepare as best as possible, the three-time Grand Slam finalist was spotted on the practice courts alongside a tennis legend, Venus Williams, according to footage captured by Tennis Channel (see video below).
At 44 years old, the American, who has won seven Major singles titles in her career, is present at the American complex and was seen hitting balls with Jabeur. While Williams has not officially announced her retirement, her last match on the main tour dates back to the same Miami tournament last year, when she was defeated in the first round by Diana Shnaider (6-3, 6-3).
A few weeks ago, the Indian Wells organization surprised tennis observers by announcing that Venus Williams had received a wild card to participate in the California tournament. A few hours later, the former world number 1 ultimately decided not to take part in the main draw, freeing up the wild card for another player.
