Wawrinka Finds a Second Youth in Naples: "It's the Passion for Sports That Keeps Me Going"

Victorious against Croatians Gojo (6-2, 6-3) and Coric (6-2, 6-3), Wawrinka has advanced to the quarterfinals of the Naples Challenger.
On the verge of turning 40, the Swiss player is experiencing a second youth. In the mixed zone after his second-round win, the three-time Grand Slam champion shared his thoughts on the Neapolitan atmosphere. He also discussed what motivates him to keep competing on the professional tour:
"I’ll be celebrating my birthday in Naples. Once again, the atmosphere today was fantastic. It rained in the morning, but conditions improved in the afternoon. There were so many people, and I had a lot of support—I really appreciated it. It was a great match. I’m happy with my performance and to still be here in Naples.
At my age, I try to enjoy every moment. I’m not thinking about winning the tournament just yet. It’s still early, and there are many matches ahead.
It’s the passion for sports that keeps me playing. There aren’t many things that can excite you like tennis does.
Just look at what happened today with the fans. We’re talking about a Challenger, and the crowd was cheering me on, giving me so much energy and incredible emotions.
I know I’m nearing the end of my career, but I want to enjoy this part of my life for as long as possible. I have no problem pushing myself beyond the limit and continuing."
Wawrinka will face Darderi in the quarterfinals.
