Wawrinka is reborn and defeats Mpetshi Perricard in Shanghai!
Stan Wawrinka is not far from the end.
At the age of 39, the Swiss is having an extremely difficult season and is currently ranked a worrying 234th in the world.
And yet, the former world No. 3 remains a talented player capable of some dazzling feats.
And that's exactly what he did in the first round of the Shanghai Masters 1000.
Facing Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, ranked 50th in the world and known for his fiery serve, 'Stan the Man' played an extremely solid match, winning in two tight sets (7-6, 7-6).
The win takes Wawrinka through to the second round, where he will face Flavio Cobolli.
