Stats - Wawrinka, the oldest player to win a Masters 1000 match since Karlovic!

Stan Wawrinka returned to winning ways on Thursday.

Facing Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in the first round of the Shanghai Masters 1000, the Swiss legend played an extremely solid match to win in just under 2 hours (7-6, 7-6).

In addition to qualifying for the second round of the Chinese tournament, he becomes the oldest player to win a Masters 1000 match since a certain Ivo Karlovic at Indian Wells in 2019.

Not bad for a player who some are already predicting will retire!
