Wawrinka, Tireless at 40: The Swiss Player Receives a Wild Card in Athens

Two decades after his debut, Stan Wawrinka continues to fight with the same passion. Despite a difficult season, the three-time Grand Slam champion will be present at the new Athens tournament.

Stan Wawrinka, 40 years old, will wrap up his 23rd season on the professional tour in a few weeks. The Swiss player continues to battle and push the limits of age, having reached two Challenger finals (Aix-en-Provence and Rennes), for example.

But on the main tour, the Swiss veteran has struggled, winning only two matches in eleven tournaments played. He will have another opportunity in early November in Athens (November 2-8), as the organizers have granted him a wild card.

This is his tenth invitation of the year to an ATP tournament. He joins Novak Djokovic and Stefanos Tsitsipas among the other players announced in the Greek capital.
