We have additional costs," Pioline assesses the first Rolex Paris Masters at La Défense
For the first time in its history, the Rolex Paris Masters was held at La Défense Arena. The tournament left Bercy, notably for reasons of space.
However, moving to a larger venue also involves additional costs. In comments reported by Tennis Actu, Cédric Pioline, the tournament director, explains: "The margin will decrease, because we have supplementary costs and a different contract from the one we had at the Accor Arena.
I won't give figures but some pointers: we have 9,000 square meters of curtains. It's not the shower curtain you can have at home at the price per square meter… You can do some fairly simple multiples to give you an idea of what that can represent.
The budget is therefore very substantial, but it was necessary for the sporting comfort and the comfort of the spectators.
We are installing temporary stands, which is an investment, which we bought, custom-made. I'll make a small parallel with real estate: when you go from a 100 square meter apartment to a 200 square meter one, mechanically, it costs more, because there are more linear meters everywhere, and you have to dress all of it; such as this magnificent media center, and we are delighted with it!
There are costs everywhere. There are also plenty of hidden costs, things you don't see, but which cost money. When you do 'more, more, more,' it costs more, but we are delighted because the success is there.
