Wilander: "Nadal is the most important player because of his attitude".
In an interview with Eurosport, Mats Wilander, whose opinion is often listened to, spoke about the retirement of the legendary Rafael Nadal.
Insisting on his legacy, he explained that what the Majorcan had done went far beyond sporting results: "Nadal is perhaps the most important tennis player we've ever had, men and women alike, because the legacy he leaves behind is not being the best of all time. He may not be the greatest of all time, but he's the most important because of his attitude, his fighting spirit.
If someone plays tennis, the first thing you hope for is that they play with the same attitude as Rafael Nadal, whether you win or lose, play smart or don't play smart. But with this attitude, I'm completely satisfied.
He's a dream athlete. I say he's one of the most important athletes of all time, and he proved it to me once again in the Davis Cup."
