WTA 1000 Madrid: Parry and Jacquemot One Step Away from Main Draw, Paquet Eliminated

Three French players competed this Monday in the qualifying rounds of the WTA 1000 Madrid.
Diane Parry, ranked 115th in the world, secured her first win of the year against Oksana Selekhmeteva (6-2, 7-5) to advance to the second round of qualifying. She will face Elisabetta Cocciaretto tomorrow for a spot in the main draw.
Fate was also kind to Elsa Jacquemot, who had not been handed an easy draw as she was set to face Anca Todoni. The Lyon native benefited from her opponent's retirement at 3-3 in the first set to continue her journey and will next face Yuliia Starodubtseva, who defeated Chloé Paquet in three sets (2-6, 6-3, 6-0).
If Parry and Jacquemot manage to qualify tomorrow, they will join Varvara Gracheva, the only French player already in the main draw of the Madrid tournament.
