WTA 125 Buenos Aires: Jeanjean Eliminated in First Round by Giovannini
Back in the top 100 this week, Léolia Jeanjean wanted to confirm her excellent performance last week in Colina, Chile, where she reached the final. The Frenchwoman followed up with the Buenos Aires tournament, where she faced Argentine wild card Luisina Giovannini, ranked 281st in the world. Seeded number 2 in the South American capital, the 30-year-old player was the favorite in this match.
But like Carole Monnet a few hours earlier against Laura Samson, the Frenchwoman started well by winning the first set, before being overturned by her opponent. In the end, it was Giovannini who prevailed in three sets (3-6, 7-5, 6-2). The latter will face Samson, who defeated Monnet for the second consecutive week, for a spot in the quarterfinals. There are no more French players left in the Buenos Aires tournament.
