WTA 125 Colina: Jeanjean qualifies for semifinals in Chile, Monnet beaten in quarterfinals

Two French players were on the courts in Colina, Chile this Friday for the quarterfinals of the WTA 125 tournament held in the city this week. Ranked 106th in the WTA, Léolia Jeanjean confirmed her good form in recent days. After her wins against Julia Riera (6-4, 3-6, 6-2) and Laura Pigossi (6-3, 6-7, 6-4), the No. 3 seed this time dominated Maja Chwalinska (6-4, 6-2) and qualifies for the semifinals.

Jeanjean will face Mayar Sherif, who defeated Maria Carle (6-4, 6-2) and is the No. 2 seed in Colina, for a spot in the final. She will face the Egyptian for the first time in her career. However, Carole Monnet will not play in the semifinals.

After beating Veronika Erjavec (3-6, 6-4, 6-2) and Carolina Alves (6-2, 6-4), the Frenchwoman, ranked 164th in the world, was upset by Czech player Laura Samson (1-6, 6-2, 7-5). The latter will face Ukrainian Oleksandra Oliynykova, who defeated Polona Hercog (6-3, 7-6).
