WTA Cluj-Napoca: Potapova and Bronzetti to contest the final
In a week marked by Simona Halep's retirement, the WTA 250 tournament in Cluj-Napoca will crown its 2025 champion this Sunday.
Romania's number 1 seed, Anastasia Potapova, will face Lucia Bronzetti for the title.
The Russian has not conceded a single set on her way to the final. The 32nd-ranked player in the world eliminated Julia Grabher (6-4, 6-0), Viktorija Golubic (6-4, 7-5), Ella Seidel (6-2, 6-3) and Aliaksandra Sasnovich (6-3, 7-5) to reach her 6th Tour final.
She will be looking to win the third title of her career, following on from her victories in Istanbul in 2022 and Linz in 2023.
To do so, she will have to beat Lucia Bronzetti.
The Italian eliminated Simona Halep (6-1, 6-1), Peyton Stearns (6-2, 7-6), Elisabetta Cocciaretto (6-1, 6-4) and Katerina Siniakova (4-0 ab) to reach the final. A second title will be at stake for the player who triumphed in Rabat in 2023.
The two players have met four times, with Potapova winning all four of them. The last time they met was at the Birmingham grass-court tournament in June 2024, when the Russian won in two sets (6-3, 7-5).
