The first doubles pair qualified for the final of the 2025 WTA Finals is now known. Seeded number 7 in this women's Masters, Timea Babos and Luisa Stefani continue to defy the odds and are now just one step away from the title in Riyadh.

Time for the first semi-final of the day at the 2025 WTA Finals. Before the two singles matches, the doubles tournament was also on the schedule. Undefeated with three wins in as many matches during the group stage, the number 6 seeds Su-wei Hsieh and Jelena Ostapenko faced the number 7 seeds Timea Babos and Luisa Stefani.

The latter were coming off a strong performance, having eliminated the defending champions, Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe, on Wednesday in the final decisive group match.

The match was balanced in both sets, but it was the Hungarian and the Brazilian who took the lead in the first set. Hsieh and Ostapenko reacted by breaking in the second set, but their opponents did not let themselves be discouraged and came back into the match. It was ultimately in a tie-break that the two pairs had to decide the second set.

More solid in the crucial moments, Babos and Stefani qualify for the final (6-4, 7-6 in 1h44). The Hungarian, who has already won the WTA Finals in doubles three times with Kristina Mladenovic (2017, 2018 and 2019), hopes to win this tournament for the fourth time.

As for the Brazilian, she is playing in this tournament for the first time and is now just one step away from the title. They will face the winner of the other semi-final, which will pit Katerina Siniakova/Taylor Townsend against Veronika Kudermetova/Elise Mertens later in the evening.

Despite top-10 ATP rankings and consistent excellence, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Gaël Monfils, Richard Gasquet, and Gilles Simon never claimed a Grand Slam title, enduring mockery from French media amid Big 3 dominance. A deep dive into a talented generation defined by sky-high expectations and brutal competition.

As much as I love watching Alcaraz at his best, I'd love to see Alex taking this, he's such a tryer, and getting married and his humour and humility...

Favoritism?

Last year: Sinner seed 1, the organizers schedule Alcaraz on day 1, Sinner on day 2.

This year: Alcaraz seed 1, the organizers schedule Alcaraz on day 1, Sinner on day 3.

That means: 7 matches in 15 days for Alcaraz, 7 in 13 days for Sinner; and no rest day for Sinner between quarter and semis, 1 full day rest for Alcaraz.

Also, on the first very hot day, the organizers schedule Sinner...
