Wuhan WTA 1000: Only French Player in the Draw, Varvara Gracheva Falls in the First Round
In the stifling humidity of the Wuhan stadium, Varvara Gracheva and Jessica Bouzas Maneiro faced off in the first round of the WTA 1000.
As the only French player in the main draw, Gracheva (ranked 79th) didn't last long: eliminated right away by the Spaniard Bouzas Maneiro (ranked 48th) with a score of 7-6, 6-2 in 1 hour and 22 minutes.
Under the felt 35°C heat, Gracheva conceded her third defeat in as many encounters against the 23-year-old player (0-3).
On her side, Bouzas Maneiro will face in the second round the American and recent Beijing winner: Amanda Anisimova.
