I've had a very consistent year, but it's not enough for me": Kostyuk opens up
Marta Kostyuk gives a mixed assessment of her 2025 season. While her consistency shows progress, she admits honestly: "I've had a very consistent year, but it's not enough for me." A reflection on her successes, frustrations, and ambitions for the future.
A quarterfinalist in Doha, Madrid, and Toronto and reaching the second week at the US Open, Marta Kostyuk was regularly stopped by top 10 players like Aryna Sabalenka, Jessica Pegula, or Amanda Anisimova.
In an interview with Tennis365, the Ukrainian player reviewed her season before playing her final tournament of the year in Wuhan. Currently ranked 28th in the world, she admits being somewhat disappointed with her 2025 season:
"This is my last event of the year, so I'm starting to think about everything I've accomplished and wondering if I could have done better. I've evolved off the court, in how I do things and approach life.
But I hit a wall many times this year. I lost many matches against top 10 players, especially in Grand Slam tournaments. I went deep in each of them, but I couldn't get past that hurdle against these great players.
Most of the time, I was really close. Now that the year is coming to an end, it leaves me with a feeling of frustration. I've had a very consistent year and that's a good sign. But overall, I feel like I missed those last two steps to overcome these players.
I need to be patient and hope that luck turns in my favor. I think it will happen. It's a good year, but finding myself where I am isn't enough for me.
