You deserve it, you played incredibly": The respectful handshake between Djokovic and Vacherot in Shanghai
The first semifinal of the Shanghai Masters 1000 has delivered its verdict. Valentin Vacherot, ranked 204th in the world, achieved another feat in this tournament and defeated four-time champion Novak Djokovic in straight sets (6-3, 6-4).
The fairy tale continues for the Monegasque player as he advances to the final against either Daniil Medvedev or Arthur Rinderknech. At the net, during the traditional post-match handshake, Vacherot and Djokovic exchanged a few words after their battle, and their conversation was captured by Tennis TV (see video below).
"Djokovic: You deserve it, you played incredibly. Keep it up!
Vacherot: It was such a pleasure for me to play against you at least once, don't retire!
