During his match in Shanghai this Thursday, Reilly Opelka lashed out at the quality of the court. The American criticized the organization for a surface unworthy of such a tournament.
Defeated in his first round in Shanghai by Benjamin Bonzi, Opelka complained during the match about the tournament's surface following a bad bounce. This led to a conversation with the chair umpire, who was powerless in this situation:
Opelka: "Stop acting like I'm saying something unreasonable."
Chair umpire: "That's not the case, but I have no solution. There's no possibility to change the court surface now and you know the bounces are different on the lines.
They're not going to repaint the court in the middle of a match. I can note that there was a bad bounce, but that's all I can do."
