Zverev Edges Past Fearnley in Vienna
In his opening match in Vienna, Alexander Zverev faced qualifier Jacob Fearnley. The match started well for the German, who broke his opponent's serve in the very first game.
Hardly troubled on his own serve, he took the first set 6-4. But Zverev collapsed in the second set. The Briton managed to break his opponent twice and claimed the second set 6-1.
The deciding set was a battle of servers that continued into a tie-break, despite a match point for Zverev on Fearnley's serve.
In the tie-break, the German quickly gained the upper hand over his opponent and ultimately won 6-4, 1-6, 7-6. In the next round, he will face Matteo Arnaldi.
