Zverev explains his slump: "I was mentally exhausted after the Australian Open"
Alexander Zverev has experienced many ups and downs during this 2025 season. After his Australian Open final, the German player went through a series of underperformances and had to wait until April and the Munich tournament to regain confidence.
Currently in Rome, he opened up about this rough patch: "It's great to be back at a tournament where I was crowned champion in the last edition. I really enjoy playing here, and I hope to display the same level of tennis as I did in the previous edition.
Before the Munich tournament, my level was really low, and I know the reason. Not taking a few weeks off after the Australian Open was a mistake because I was mentally exhausted.
Tennis is a demanding sport—you have to rest both body and mind, and I didn’t do it at the right time. Now, I have to stay positive and remind myself that I won a tournament just two weeks ago."

It seems Zverev would have figured this out a long, long time ago.
