Musetti, World No. 9: "I'm Playing My Best Tennis Right Now and I'm in Rome to Confirm This Good Run"
A first-time Masters 1000 finalist in Monte-Carlo in recent weeks, Lorenzo Musetti confirmed his form by reaching the semifinals in Madrid, where he was defeated by Jack Draper. Now the sixth Italian player in the Open Era to break into the ATP top 10, the world No. 9 is ready to compete in Rome.
Speaking to the media during the traditional pre-tournament press conference, Musetti—who will face Hamad Medjedovic or a qualifier in his opening match—discussed his ambitions for the coming months and the progress he has made in his game.
"I'm playing my best tennis right now, and I'm in Rome to confirm this good run. My mindset has to be about aiming to win on any surface—it would be foolish to think otherwise.
I’ve made a leap in terms of consistency, especially in my results, because I’ve always had ups and downs. Since last year, the results have been more stable, and I’ve reached my highest ranking.
This is my fifth year on the professional tour—I’m a young player, but not really that young anymore. There are many Italians already established and others who have the level to break through and stay on the tour long-term.
I’m experiencing this moment with a lot of joy and pride. Being a role model and admired by so many kids chasing the dream of becoming champions brings me great happiness," said the 23-year-old Musetti, as reported by Tennis World Italia.
