Zverev: "Please don't boo any player, least of all Novak".
Zverev has qualified for the Australian Open final, following Novak Djokovic's withdrawal after one set.
The Serb exited to the booing of the Rod Laver Arena crowd. In a post-match interview, Zverev came to the Serb's rescue.
He declared: "Please, don't boo any player, least of all Novak. He has done everything imaginable for this sport, he has tried to compete despite his problems.
I know you paid for a ticket, but he's given everything to this sport for 20 years and won this tournament with a torn abdominal muscle. Show him some love.
I had to play the best set of the tournament to beat him while he was injured. He's too strong."
Zverev awaits the winner of the match between Ben Shelton and Jannik Sinner in the final.
