Zverev reacts perfectly to Ruud!
The second set was more or less the exact opposite of the first. Whereas Casper Ruud had largely dominated proceedings in the first set, he was largely dominated in the second. Zverev came back to win the second set to pull level at one set apiece (2-6, 6-2 in 1h16).
As in the first semi-final between Alcaraz and Sinner, the two men are not playing their best tennis at the same time. Indeed, the game of communicating vessels continues on the Philippe Chatrier court on this Friday evening.
While Alexander Zverev has clearly raised his game, Ruud has failed to maintain his quality.
Against a Norwegian who was far less sharp than at the start of the match (9 winners, 10 unforced errors), the German managed to hurt his opponent much more. Moving closer to his baseline and regaining his efficiency on the backhand and serve (5 aces, 80% of points won on first serve, 5 unforced errors), the world number 4 was clearly back in his game.
All we can do now is hope that both men play their best tennis at the same time.
