Zverev: "Roland Garros in 2022 was the hardest moment of my career".
Alexander Zverev was Head's guest for their "What's in your head?" series.
He was asked about various moments in his career, including his injury against Nadal in 2022.
The German recalls: "The French Open in 2022 was the hardest moment of my career.
I was one match away from becoming world number one, playing probably the best tennis of my life, against the best clay-court player in history.
It was a tough moment, because even if I'd lost the match, he's Nadal, you can lose to him at Roland Garros. Everyone has lost to him before. So it's no surprise if you lose to him.
But knowing that I had to win just one match in three months to become world number one was very difficult for me.
And obviously, being in a cast, and not being able to play, and even walk and do everyday things, was complicated.
But to be in the semi-finals a year later was a great moment. But at that point, I wasn't where I'd been the year before.
The semi-final was my limit, whereas in 2022, I felt capable of winning the tournament.
It's hard to say and admit, but I did. That was then, today it's different, I've won big tournaments again. I'm happy where I am."
