Zverev: "You don't win a Grand Slam easily like Federer or Nadal".
Alexander Zverev takes on Carlos Alcaraz this Sunday in the final of the French Open. The German, who at the age of 27 is aiming to win his first Grand Slam title, has had to fight hard to reach this stage of the competition. In both the third round and the round of 16, he managed to escape complicated situations after more than 4 hours of battling against Tollon Griekspoor (3-6, 6-4, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6) and Holger Rune (4-6, 6-1, 5-7, 7-6, 6-2) respectively.
At the press conference, Zverev gave us his views on his journey to the final and the clash that awaits him against Alcaraz on the clay of Court Philippe Chatrier.
Alexander Zverev: "I don't think there are any easy matches or easy opponents in a Grand Slam final. If you're in the final of the French Open, it's because you deserve to be there. And that's true for him too (Alcaraz). He played a fantastic match (Friday against Sinner), he played a fantastic tournament in general, and I'm expecting a very tough match.
To go far in a Grand Slam and win the title, you have to overcome difficulties and go through a lot of ups and downs. You're not going to win a Grand Slam by winning every match in three straight sets. Some of us, some players, like Roger (Federer), have done it. Rafa (Nadal) has done it a few times too. But normally, you have to go through big battles.
You have to come back from tough 5-set matches. You have to bounce back from difficult moments. And I'm happy with my path to the final. I'm happy to be in a Grand Slam final and to give myself the best chance of winning on Sunday."
