"It would be very selfish of me," Alcaraz justifies his withdrawal from the Davis Cup match against Denmark
On Sunday, Carlos Alcaraz won his second US Open after a high-level performance against his great rival Jannik Sinner (6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4). In doing so, the Spaniard reclaimed the world number one ranking. Alcaraz is expected to return to competition the week of September 24 in Tokyo.
Absent from the list of players registered for Beijing (a tournament of which he is the defending champion), the 22-year-old player will now rest and will not play in Spain's upcoming Davis Cup match against Denmark.
In an interview with Cadena Ser after his title at Flushing Meadows, Alcaraz justified his decision not to represent his national team against the Scandinavian squad.
"The truth is, it's difficult for me, I'm really sorry. The ATP tour doesn't allow any respite; there are a lot of matches. The demands have been very high in recent weeks, both mentally and physically.
I don't have time to prepare in the best possible way and arrive in good form for the Davis Cup.
It would be too selfish of me. Other players can be in better condition than I am.
Personally, I need rest to prepare for the rest of the season and, above all, to be mentally calm and process everything that happened during this tour in the United States," he stated in recent hours.
It is!!!!!
You are selfish.
