WTA: An Identical Top 3 Two Years in a Row, Unseen in 25 Years
Three players, two seasons, the same podium: The WTA had not seen such continuity in 25 years.

Accustomed to the upheavals from one season to the next, the WTA rankings showed a certain stability in 2025. Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, and Coco Gauff already occupied the top three spots last year, and they have once again locked down the podium this year.

While Sabalenka held onto her world No. 1 seat without a flinch, Swiatek had to battle to return to the top 3 after a disappointing first half of the season. Gauff, for her part, briefly left this trio in April, before quickly returning and never leaving again.
You had to go back 25 years to find an identical WTA top 3 two years in a row: at that time, Martina Hingis, Lindsay Davenport, and Venus Williams dominated the tour.
