Djokovic to undergo right knee surgery!

Djokovic to undergo right knee surgery!

It's the news of the moment at Roland-Garros: Novak Djokovic has been forced to withdraw from the Paris tournament, leaving Casper Ruud to reach the semi-finals. After suffering a serious injury to the meniscus in his right knee, he had no choice but to withdraw, as he was too physically diminished by the injury to risk aggravating it.

Determined to be back for the Olympic Games (July 27-August 4), where he hopes to finally win a gold medal (he won bronze in Beijing in 2008), the Serb has, according to information from L'Équipe, decided to undergo surgery this Wednesday in Paris.

It's a bold choice, given the reluctance of the soon-to-be ex-world number 1 (Sinner will become number 1 on Monday) to undergo surgery. Not one to prevaricate, he probably preferred to accept the obvious and waste no time.

The fairly standard operation should enable him to repair the medial meniscus lesion in his right knee. The estimated period of unavailability is three weeks, which means that 'Nole' is likely to miss Wimbledon, but could well be fit for the Paris Olympics.

Having had both menisci repaired, a quick recovery is not necessarily a piece of cake. I wish Nole a healthy recovery.

Novak it's not a head case.

Novak is the Greatest tennis player that ever walked on Earth and lives in a lot of people's heads. :)

Wow! Huge news for tennis. As a Fed fan, I'm happy to see that more records won't tumble at least for the near future, but as a tennis fan, I like rooting against him even though I respect his accomplishments. Good luck, Djoko.

Too bad for Fed fans, he just broke another 2 records with his last match (most QF on GS and most wins on GS). He chose the right moment to stop 😂

Djokovic is worth over $200 million. He can easily afford a high resolution MRI scan. It's highly unlikely he and his team didn't know the exact condition of his knee going into the FO. I'm assuming his competitive nature and desire to add to his legacy drove him to playing in the FO. Unfortunately that didn't work out best for him or tennis fans.

The GOAT'S determination and love for the game will have him out there in no time. The important part is to heal properly so it doesn't become an on going issue.

Never joyous to see a tennis player injured. Except when Rafa was, I remember many gloating of those times.
